Loved all these house/kitchen memories across multiple generations--I hadn't realized your Mama lived in her nightgown and smoked, so have adjusted my internal visualization of your crazy childhood in the hinterlands. The wallpaper to achieve the color scheme Mama wanted is deeply resonant; my mother wanted an orange kitchen and got it, and we had wallpaper-to-match of cartoon chickens, I think. You seem/sound very at home in your kitchen and that sure tracks. What a great vantage point to watch over your family, even when it gets complicated!
